About the I Love You Artbox

The I Love You Art Box is a special pilot project designed by DesignHaus11. It's a gift box containing carefully curated art supplies and themed art activities that is mailed to caregivers of persons living with early onset Alzheimer's. There are already some wonderful art programs that exist in this realm specifically for persons living with dementia but as a creative director and a care partner, I aim to bring a different approach. The I Love You Art Box is designed to give caregivers a fun respite. It’s colorful, simple instruction with sophisticated design and packaging is intended to lift a caregiver’s spirits and inspire them to create art for themselves or with the loved one they are caring for. 

Our family has been living the early -onset Alzheimer's journey for a few years now. We were fortunate to have an art therapist come to the house once a week to work on art projects with our loved one during those first few scary months after being diagnosed. Seeing our loved one's positive response to the art therapy and the wonderful conversations that came about while making art, I couldn’t help but wonder how other families who didn’t have the option to bring art therapy home might still benefit from artmaking and the connection it creates. And so, the I Love You Art Box was born.

I hope this pilot project can help other caregivers, and their families combat the fear, sadness and stigma associated with Alzheimer’s and I hope it provides me with insights and feedback to refine the concept. Heaven knows, this special DesignHaus11 project could be the start of something truly inspiring.
